Good Day.

I have a chromebook with coreboot which runs xubuntu but i dont want a hefty linux kernel. So i would like to try the genode/nova. Since the chromebook (CB3-111-C4HT - Intel celeron 2840N vt-x only) does not have vt-d, it seems to freeze at splash screen. I would like some help with this.

1. What is the minimum hardware (RAM/Storage) needed to install Genode.
2. Is there a way to see the logs (GDB is enabled, but i am not sure how to listen to the logs) on the laptop.
3. Changing the kernel to foc and sel4 causes out of memory exception for the BOARD=pc configuration. While kernel=hw and board=pc causes the same effect as the downloaded 24.04 img file.

What is the next course of action? Appreciate any help here.

Thanks

Tayirvadai

We never tried Sculpt running on a Chromebook, yours seem to be, according to the spec, quite dated. The oldest notebook we try from time to time is a Lenovo X201. See [Genode - Sculpt Operating System 25.04](https://genode.org/documentation/articles/sculpt-25-04#Hardware_requirements_and_preparations) for the general requirements.

You may try following things:

- Follow the steps of [Genode - Sculpt with Visual Composition (VC)](https://genode.org/documentation/articles/sculpt-vc#Sculpt_as_a_hardware-probing_instrument) to setup a component which periodically writes the system logs to the USB stick. (Assumption is that the usb host driver is running fine). You will have to setup this on a machine with working Sculpt OS support however.
- Get somehow uart/serial output of your machine to see the actual reason.
- Alternatively, you may try a debug image from me, [https://depot.genode.org/alex-ab/images/debug\_image\_25\_04.img](https://depot.genode.org/alex-ab/images/debug_image_25_04.img), based on ([Commits · alex-ab/genode · GitHub](https://github.com/alex-ab/genode/commits/debug_image_23_05/) - probably), which is a collection of basic graphic driver tests, to see which of the driver is potentially working.

Thank you for the reply will try it. @alex-ab .. Similarly i have an AMD Opteron 6272 CPU based desktop that did not work either. I will try this approach on that as well.

I updated the debug image [https://depot.genode.org/alex-ab/images/debug\_image\_25\_10.img](https://depot.genode.org/alex-ab/images/debug_image_25_10.img) and added also a Sculpt 25.10 variant, which only uses the boot\_fb driver during boot. Later on one may try to start the vesa driver or the Intel gpu+display driver. Image is based upon [Commits · alex-ab/genode · GitHub](https://github.com/alex-ab/genode/commits/debug_image_25_10)
