Can I use Sculpt OS as a replacement for Linux or a base for my existing linux distro to run in this OS?

As I watched a video presentation - I’ve got that drivers are used from Linux kernel. So does it run on a new hardware? Can I daily drive this OS?

I’ve found this OS as way out of stupid UNIX-like OSes and their communities. Since recently with leetmouse (mouse acceleration driver) I had been getting kernel panics from time to time and I was trying not to catch some annoying nuances frequently because I know them - a lot of them. It tends me to not use OS, more precisely parts of it in order to do not change anything - whatever I do I encounter bugs, silly developer decisions and so on. This leads to frustration constantly. I’m kinda afraid of approaching my computer some times - but I need it anyway.

So what will I achieve with Sculpt OS?

Sculpt is certainly very different from Unix (and indeed most others). This means the best way to decide if it’s for you is to give it a spin - the live USB disk image is very small. Run through the tutorial that comes with the sculpt download page otherwise you will probably be frustratingly lost.

finally, I recommend waiting for the end of the month before starting to use and customize it in earnest: there will be a new edition coming out and word is that it will bring a lot of changes in the customization scripts.

Squizzler’s advice is very sound IMO. It is very easy to get started playing around with Sculpt, and the tutorials and documentation around this project are superb. (Plus, you can always ask for advice here.) It probably is wise to wait until the new end-of-October release to begin attempting a serious migration, but don’t let that stop you from familiarizing yourself with the system!

As to migration, the easiest way to actually move to Genode is to put your existing software into a VM (Linux, in your case and mine), which allows you to run your guest VM on Sculpt to get immediate results. Then you can go about gradually moving functionality to native Genode components, as quickly or slowly as you desire, and as new software is ported.

I still haven’t taken the plunge to making Sculpt my official “daily driver” yet, but that is 100% because of a lack of time on my part. The Genode devs have been running this way for years now!
