Sculpt OS 26.04.2 720 BE

Sculpt OS 26.04.2 720 BE¹ is my personal flavor of Sculpt OS that I started
to tinker around with some time ago. It is work-in-progress and experimental but nonetheless maybe of interest to some of you.

Perhaps it will inspire someone else to tinker around as well…

Some of the changes made are done in a hackish way and are deliberately included in the image rather than put on top, which increases its size - merely treat them as demonstration. It is compatible to vanilla 26.04.2 but uses cnuke as main depot identity.

Most striking are the cosmetic alterations as the vanilla theme for
menu_view and themed_decorator are replaced with a ”dark-mode“ look based on the srcery palette and features a somewhat oldschool looking UI with hard egdes.

It also shuffles the interface in the leitzentrale around a bit:

  • The graph is anchored at the left side
  • The plus button is moved to the panel (I haven’t bothered adressing the jumping yet)
  • The diagnostic dialog is moved to the bottom right corner
  • Transparency and motion effects are reduced
  • Size of the log_view option is increased
  • Some of the icons are replaced

The default pointer shape was also altered and its size increased to 32x32 (the pixelated edges are a feature for now).

Additionally changes to the base system worth pointing out are:

  • The Iosevka font (Aile regular for quasi-proportional and Fixed-SS02 regular for mono-space) replaces the minimal Vera font normally bundled with Sculpt
  • bsd_audio and record_player_mixer are part of the image and are manged via option/board
  • HMB for nvme is configured
  • Up to 32 partitions are considered

The image (sig) is available from depot.genode.org and also installable via Sculpt’s update mechanism. The corresponding git branch is available here.

Enjoy.

¹) The moniker is tribute to the Phenom II X3 720 BE that served me well back in the day.

Thanks for sharing. I now feel the urge to craft a Sculpt image to address touch (i.e. finger) friendliness.
