Website usability

The Genode and Genode Labs websites are hard to use on phones and other such devices because they don’t scale correctly. Additionally, the diagram on the main page is basically unreadable until clicked, and it has no explanation/caption. However, Ifeel like the websites aligning with the style of Sculpt makes sense. I don’t see any accessibility features, but that’s not something I’m familiar with, so I might be missing something.

From what I can tell, the design of the website hasn’t changed significantly for over a decade, so I’m not sure if anyone would be up for updating it. If there are more pressing matters to deal with, feel free to ignore this, I just wanted to share my thoughts!

Beyond the comments on the website itself, your post suggests the marketing and customer facing side of Genode has not kept up with the engineering excellence of the system itself. I would tend to agree. Many of us would rather the effort for now went into improvements to the operating system itself, although an improved website might bring on more casual users and build the community.

I am not sure if that was offering your services in this department! There are certainly areas where we as a community can help make Genode more attractive to “window shoppers”. For instance I had a go at the Wikipedia article a year or so back.

“The marketing hasn’t kept up with the system” would be an accurate summary of what I meant with this post, yes.

Not really, I’m not a web developer so I don’t feel I’d do the best job, I could certainly give it a try though!

I find the Genode website pleasingly simple and informative. In addition, unlike many “modern” websites, it loads pleasingly fast and even on the go with poor mobile phone reception. Still, there are a few little things where I would be happy to see an improvement.
The 3-column view on the home page is a bit difficult to read on my smartphone, as the website is unfortunately not responsive. Is there a reason why a table and many nested div tags are used instead of the HTML5 default elements?
